Roro raises $1.6M for 3D digital dollhouse game

A team of gaming veterans has raised $1.6 million for a new game studio named Roro, which is making a 3D digital dollhouse game.
The Stockholm, Sweden-based studio is focused on creative play and was created by veterans from Toca Boca and Mojang (Minecraft).
The funding comes from investors including node.vc, FOV Ventures, Gaming Angels, and notable angel investors such as Craig Fletcher and Nick Button Brown.
Led by CEO William Sampson, a Toca Boca and Stardoll alum, and cofounded by Robin Flodin, formerly of EG7, along with Kristoffer Jelbring, the former tech director at Mojang, the Roro team boasts over 50 years of combined experience. Their portfolios include contributions to successful titles like Minecraft, Minecraft Dungeons, Toca Hair Salon 4, Toca Kitchen Sushi, Rayman Legends, and Stardoll.
Roro aims to introduce a 3D digital dollhouse, leveraging an innovative approach to foster creativity and self-expression. In an industry often dominated by conventional themes, Roro intends to carve a niche for players seeking positive, non-toxic creative outlets in open-ended gaming experiences.

Sampson said in a statement, “The industry has become much more aware of the potential of pure play in the last decade or so, but creative play and self-expression are overlooked with few studios building new quality experiences for our audience.”
The studio’s vision aligns with a growing trend among younger generations, emphasizing the importance of fostering self-expression and creative freedom.
Flodin said in a statement, “We believe we’ve hit on something that just doesn’t exist in this space yet, but the audience is clearly there for it.”

As Roro gears up for future projects, the studio is actively hiring for essential roles, inviting passionate individuals who resonate with their vision to join the team. The company has five people and is hiring four more.
